He was surprised by how well it was panning out.

He’d assumed that in order to pull this off, he’d need to get his hands dirty, that he’d need to point certain people in the right direction. He was pleased that it hadn’t come to that. There was no need to get his hands dirty just yet.

He wasn’t worried about the possibility of the man in custody identifying him. Partly because he was a proud man, exactly the type who would want to appear defiant in the face of the police.

He thought about the two young women who’d died. From what he understood, the actions that were taken against them were borderline barbaric. He certainly wouldn’t have decrutched the second victim so violently. But clearly, these people wanted to make a statement.

He believed in the principle that the punishment should fit the crime. He wondered if he’d need to get involved with the situation personally, risk showing his hand…

No, he’d wait for now, and see what happened next. He’d already been the instigator and was content to be the spectator.
